Five Element Consultations

Consultations are woven into the Five Element Acupuncture Series  

Clinical consults are designed to support practitioners' ongoing development in diagnostic assessment and treatment planning skills. Classical Five Element Acupuncture does not use symptoms as the organizing principle when diagnosing and treating patients. We do not ignore symptoms because they serve a s a distress signal to inform us that there is an imbalance.  Instead, our emphasis is on identifying the root cause of the disease. By working with the laws of nature, honing our CSOE, observation, pulse-taking, and treatment planning skills, we serve as instruments of healing. 

We incorporate consultations in our classes so practitioners can bring patients who are not progressing as they would expect. We interview the patient in a treatment room with eight observers, discuss, and provide feedback. The patient receives an acupuncture treatment in the clinic, and we observe the change. We provide three follow-up treatment plans. Observers get hands-on experience with pulses, color, sound, odor, emotion, and "golden keys." The day's magic is in being affirmed and met at a new, growing edge. The classroom is a safe learning environment that underscores the power and freedom of "beginner's mind."
